And, I don't want Adobe scanning all my images with their AI software. I don't want to be forced to upload all my images o the cloud. If Adobe provided a version of LR that allowed for local storage as the default but cloud storage when I wanted to use it, that might be worth considering. And, if you are traveling somewhere where you do not have Internet access, the cloud is useless. But, it also has serious limitations, including the need for large (and expensive) cloud storage rental and long times to up load. (but then I never ever thought Apple would abandon Aperture). I gotta figure that LR Classic won't be abandoned by Adobe but I'll bet they see the future in the cloud. The flip side is that although it's cloud centered, it's not as well integrated into the "iWorld." I imagine that Apple has home court advantage here. This appears to be quite similar to Photo's with slightly different emphasis, folder structure and the like, it also appears to have more post processing ability. While Photo's abilities are improving they're still lacking BUT the integration with the cloud is brilliant. Apple abandoned Aperture and gave us a handicapped Photos in it's stead. I'm of the opinion that the cloud is the future. So images in the cloud are analyzed so that you can do content searches as if you’d set a bunch of keywords. The cloud version is also doing image recognition to allow you to search your photos for content. I only use Lr Cloudy to manage the folders structure for the cloud system. I do, by having an import to Lightroom (Cloudy), let everything sync, and download to Classic, then I use Classic to edit and manage. Lightroom Classic can download from the cloud thoughĪdobe don't recommend running both though, it can get messy, and you can d a lot of harm to your setup if you're not careful. Local storage only as a backup/cache, uploads everything whether you like it or not, but since full res to all devices. Lightroom (Cloudy) - newer version of Lightroom, with similar editing capabilities, but many still missing - no red-eye, virtual copies, printing or external editing (only Photoshop if you get the Photography Plan). Cannot upload any original full size images to the cloud. Can sync with any device photos taken, by uploading lower-res 'Smart Previews' to the Cloud (only for viewing/editing though, no hi-res stuff for printing or sharing). Lightroom Classic - Local storage, and full editing and DAM capabilities, presets, batch editing, external apps etc. I was using Lightroom 6.ĭoes anyone use Lightroom in preference to Lightroom Classic? It looks a bit limited, aside form sharing photos to my iPad
